1. Pharaoh to the Red Sea

Blue
- Pharaoh → Etham camp
- This ancient trading route is called Darb esh-Shawi.
Red
- Pharaoh → Etham camp
- This route goes mainly trough streambeds of wadis (rivers)
Green
- Etham → Head of the Gulf of Aquba
- The Red Sea crossing was over what’s now dry land but back then flooded.
- The water was quite shallow and the dividing of the sea was trough natural means (wind)
Yellow
- Etham → Nuweiba Beach
- This route goes mainly trough streambeds of wadis (rivers)
- This Red Sea crossing goes trough 850 meter (half mile) deep water.
- This was a old fashion miracle or if there are natural explanations they are presently totally unknown.
2. Etham and Shur regions

Yellow: Etham
Red: Shur
3. Red Sea to Mt. Sinai

Colors explained (alphabetical order)
- Blue: Wadi al-Abyad
- Brown: Wadi Tiryam and Wadi Sadr
- Green: Butainah Corridor. An other major route.
- Orange: I don’t know the name of this route.
- Pink: The route Moses took uphill.
- Purple: Wadi Ythm Pass, which connects the two north-south routes.
- Red: Part of an ancient major route, that’s currently known as the Hajj route to Mecca and extensively traveled by muslim pilgrims.
- White: A route along the shore connecting to the Hajj Route.
- White rectangle: The Red Sea crossing.
- Yellow: Wadi al-Abyad and Wadi Zaylah (Connects to another major route not drawn on this map).
The green houses are villages
Possible (and likely) routes to Jabal Maqla:
- Follow all the white circles - Nuweiba Beach crossing
- From the tip of the gulf to the third white circle. Then follow the remaining white circles - Tip of the gulf crossing.
Possible (and likely) route to volcano Bedr
- Optionally the white route.
- Follow the red route south.
- Take the brown route south-east.
- Follow the orange route.
